Samen tegen Voedselverspilling (‘Together against Food Waste’) and Truman launch a campaign to educate the Dutch population on expiration dates in order to reduce food waste.
In 2019, the advertising property "Becky" was introduced by Samen tegen Voedselverspilling to give more consistency and recognizability to the "How #verspillingsvrij (‘#wastefree’) are you?" campaign. Now, in a TV commercial and online videos, Becky will explain to the Dutch people the two types of expiration dates and how to manage them.
The average Dutch person can reduce their food waste by about 5 kilograms per year by better understanding expiration dates.
However, many Dutch people lack knowledge of the two types of expiration dates: "Best before" and "Use by." Nearly half of the Dutch population knows the difference between "Best before" and "Use by," while the other half does not. Proper management of expiration dates can prevent food waste. To make the difference between the two types of dates even clearer to more Dutch people, the Together against Food Waste foundation is launching a campaign.
Becky explains
In the videos and TV commercial, Becky provides a brief and clear explanation of the fact that there are two types of expiration dates. She also immediately provides a concrete and clear course of action: for "Best before," check, smell, and taste after the date; for "Use by," use or freeze before or on the date.
