The heat transition calls for choices, collaboration and trust. Yet sustainable collective heating feels complex and daunting for many people. Residents, municipalities, housing associations, developers and employees all have questions about cost, technology, reliability, freedom of choice and their say.
For Ennatuurlijk, the challenge was bigger than campaign communications. The organisation needed a story that could make the collective heat transition understandable, credible and human.
The Netherlands needs to move away from natural gas towards sustainable heating and cooling. Collective heat can play a major part, but for many people a heating network does not feel like an obvious choice. The technology is complex, decision-making depends on collaboration, and a monopoly position can create distrust.
Information alone would not help people take the next step. Overly technical communication would create distance. Overly idealistic communication would gloss over real questions about affordability, reliability and freedom of choice.
The real question became: how do you help people and organisations to stop waiting and take the step towards a sustainable collective-heating future together?
The breakthrough was to frame the heat transition as a shared movement that starts with having the courage to act.
Not waiting until everything is certain. Not getting stuck in objections or system debates. But starting, learning and improving together.
That shifted Ennatuurlijk’s role:
From: heat supplier.
To: a guiding partner in sustainable collective heat.
The central idea became:
Moving local energy forward.
That idea made the challenge less abstract. Ennatuurlijk does not simply connect people to heat; it brings them along, explains, reassures and helps them move forward.
The narrative became a system for brand, propositions, customer communications, content and employer branding. The True Story Canvas® clarified where Ennatuurlijk comes from, the role it can credibly play and how it can provide direction in the collective heat transition.
The movement came by shifting from explaining to guiding.
From: technology to trust.
From: isolated executions to one coherent narrative system.
From: waiting to moving forward.
That gave the parent brand, labels, propositions, customer communications, thought leadership, employer branding and explainers one shared direction to work from.
